Last night I attended the annual Wirral Volunteer of the Year Awards at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton. It was again a humbling evening listening to how nuch so many Wirral people do voluntarily for others.  The overall winner was George O’Donnell who was named Volunteer of the Year for all his work including the Wirral’s Ark Project.

The highlight of the event for me personally was the winner of Merseytravel Oak Award for older volunteers which was Margaret Harrison, for her work with the Wirral Deaf and Blind Group, which she has run for over 20 years. She also runs dance classes for elderly people, once a week in Heswall.  The reason for it being my highlight…. she is my Mum!

The night was compared by the fantastic Pauline Daniels who gives lots of her time for charity.  A good event showing how much good is being done by the residents of Wirral.
