Last night saw the annual Youth Parliament at Wallasey Town Hall.  It was a great event with many youngsters from Wirral schools and youth groups taking part.  The students spend the day at the Town Hall and in the evening attend the council chamber and debate the issues as in a normal Council meeting.  The meeting is chaired by the Mayor with a number of councillors attending as observers.

They had varied Notices of Motion to debate including subjects such as Euthanasia, Gender neutral public toilets, Social Media, and voting age.  There were some excellent and passionate speeches and the behaviour was excellent, with more manners and respect shown than at many ordinary Council meetings!

Youngers who had enjoyed the event were encouraged to get to know more about local issues and maybe become more involved in local politics.
