I have had a very busy week.  Monday was full council, during which I made my maiden speech.  I applauded the budget proposal for reducing the council debt.  The plans should bring savings of about £48m without any compulsory redundancies or reduction in essential services.  The meeting got very heated with the police having to expel one person from the public gallery.

Tuesday morning I went to Foxfield School where I had mince pies and coffee with class 5.4.  There was a definite buzz at the school, which I think was due to the countdown to Christmas.

Tuesday night was the Christmas Dinner of the Wirral Committee of The Federation of Small Businesses.  This was held at the Peninsular Restaurant in New Brighton.  It was my first visit to this establishment, but after that meal it won’t be the last.

Wednesday with my colleagues Cllrs. Chris Blakeley and Simon Mountney I went to the Pensioner Christmas Lunch at Moreton Community Centre.  We had an excellent 3 course lunch, and were entertained by a three girl Irish band.  It was nice to chat with our elderly residents, and learn a thing or two from them!

Thursday morning I met with two of the  borough’s highway engineers in Town Meadow Lane to discuss parking and traffic flow problems.

Thursday evening I was at the Town Hall on a course entitled “Dignity in Care”. This was a very interesting and thought provoking seminar highlighting issues that can easily go unnoticed.

Friday was an important event that I wasn’t invited to.  It was at Buckingham Palace where our Moreton resident, Jo Wood, received her MBE from The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales.  Well done Jo, what a great honour for all your hard work.  A brilliant end to a busy week.
