For some time, the brook at Saughall Massie Village has been suffering from Himalyan Balsam. This plant is a relative of the ‘Bizzy Lizzie’ and is quite pretty, however it grows very fast and becomes invasive to the brook and surrounding areas. It has threatened the brook for some considerable time. Finally, the Environment Agency have attended and cut back the plant and will keep it under control each year.
This excellent news has been mainly due to the efforts and persistence of village resident Peter Bolt. Peter is the Heritage Officer for the Saughall Massie Village Conservation Area Society, who works tirelessly to maintain the ethos of the village. More details of the Society can be found by clicking this link.
